Is Bullying Becoming too Frequent on Television?

by Ballah-MonI

When someone brings up the word bullying, the discussion will start about how it is constant in schools. What other’s don’t realize is that it is right under their nose, in front of them, in their homes. Yes, it is on your television screen! With shows like the Bad Girls Club, and Basketball Wives, bullying is the main theme for alot of the episodes. It’s almost like watching the movie Mean Girls all over again. When is bullying too tiring? Evelyn Lozada and Chad Ochocinco are already feeling the response of frustartion. Change.org has a petition going around boycotting Evelyn and Chad’s up and coming reality show on their wedding. This petition showed that viewers were fed up with Evelyn’s childish ways. Is America really tired of the bullying on television, or they hate to admit that it is their guilty pleasure? Since season one of Basketball Wives, there has been alot of talk of how these women (all are not even married to a basketball player anymore) are bullies and an embaressment to African American Women, but every monday night, they pull over a million viewers. If a viewer is so bothered about te show, why watch? And can we as viewers blame the bullying on television for the way the teenagers act today? Some would say yes and others would say no. Some would say yes because children copy what they see on TV. Other’s would say no because bullying is a money making thing. Without the bullying on television, people would not tune in to watch. And we all know, no bullying no show. The future for Basketball Wives is uncertain, will VH-1 give the ax to their most popular show yet? It is up to the viewers to decide on this one!
