Blackstreet: Icon

Release Date: 01/10/2011

Record Label: Interscope

Genre: R&B

Although a decade and some years on top of that have passed, the moniker of this hit 90’s group and their timeless music will never get old. Many of us can pick out countless titles of music these talented men of R&B have serenaded us with over tough break-ups (“Don’t Leave Me Girl”), a lingering love that we all can’t seem to get over (“Before I Let You Go”), and party hits that will forever make our shoulders bounce anytime we hear it (“No Diggity”). Either way old fan or just jumping on the band-wagon to what we’ve all known these four/five young men of ‘Blackstreet’ to be, you won’t be disappointed, that’s a promise! Allow me, as I certify this album VERSED approved!

Dru Hill: Icon

Release Date: 1/10/2012

Record Label: Island Def Jam Music Group

Genre:R&B

Can you still hear the strong melodic vibe pouring from Sisqo, Nokio, Jazz, and Woody, and ultimately new member Tao after Woody’s departure when they performed some if not all their beautiful hits whether on stage or hearing it through the airwaves? I still do! A musical memoir packed with 11 of their greatest’s of all time, and it dates back to their first album with singles like “5 Steps” and “In My Bed”. Although another classic “We’re Not Making Love No More” could have been added to the roster, this project still captures what the men of Dru Hill have been able to bless us fans with, for years to come: true essence of soul and r&B. This album has been given a VERSED  approved pass.

Stevie Wonder: Hotter Than July

Release Date: 01/10/2012

Record Label: uknown

Genre:R&B

It seems that this iconic project created and released 32 years ago was more than eligible to be brought back out from the greatest hits by Motown and Stevie Wonder himself. Inspired by his love for reggae music from meeting Bob Marley, Wonder was encouraged to write the first track, “Master Blaster (Jammin)”, after a performance they had in 1979. From there he created three more hits (I Aint Gonna Stand For It, Lately, and Happy Birthday) that would complete the magic four tracks that did extremely well on the charts in UK. Fans can enjoy the many sounds of different instruments from the musicians that helped with putting this lustrous album together. Although we’re in the middle of January, let “Hotter Than July” set that warm and blazing tone we all need once in a while. This album has been certified VERSED approved.

Yo Gotti: Live from the Kitchen

Release Date: 01/10/2012

Record Label: RCA

Genre: Rap

Back with his 5th studio album and a hot single that was released two years ago, this Memphis based MC proves can’t nothing stop his hustle. With a mean sound like fellow rapper and one of many to make an appearance on his album, Young Jeezy, Yo Gotti pulled out all stops to make sure this tough sound with it’s gangster feel featured greatness much like himself. Collaborations with producers Cool & Dre, Drummer Boy, and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League  just to name a few, along with top rappers Lil Wayne , T.I., and more. VERSED fans who need a good bumpin and thumpin to your system in your car, this is for you! This album has been certified VERSED approved.

Heather Victoria: Hip Hop Soul Lives

Release Date: 01/12/2012

Record Label: free agent

Genre: R&B

A different sound mixed with sexyness filled with attitude and well prounounced lyrical flow sums up Heather Victoria as she belts out passion over a sultry sound and shows off her rapping skills as well.  What fans will appreciate about this young lady is her versatile ability to swtich up the concept of where her music is coming from, whether it be the popular sounds of the 60’s with visible sampling in “Not Taking You Back” or the smooth head bopping in “Let’s Go All In”, or how about her touching ode to her mom in “Mama Said”, either way, Ms Heather Victoria captures it all. Job well done on this project! This mixtape has secured a spot in the VERSED approved vault.
