R.Kelly: Write Me Back
Release Date: 06/26/2012
Record Label: RCA
Genre: R&B
This man never stops making the best of the best with each passing album, back from “Love Letters” which Kelly released in 2010, is back with it’s sequel “Write me Back.” The man responsible for providing the soundtrack to many of our intimate moments shows listeners his many sides while singing to the sounds of Sam Cooke, The Temptations, and others. The track choices doesn’t just stay in the 60’s and 70’s era as it switches over to some of Kelly’s more signature styles. Fans will like the current single that’s on the airwaves “Feeling Single” alongside “Believe In Me”, “Fallin From The Sky” among others. This album along with 80% of it’s tracks get a VERSED approved stamp!
Justin Beiber: Believe
Release Date: 06/19/2012
Record Label: Island
Genre: Rock, Dance-Pop
Having been released for about week now, the opening single immediately shows how the young pop crooner has matured since his last album, “All Around The World” ft Ludacris could possibly be the new club banger for the summer. “If I Was Your Boyfriend”, “As Long As You Love Me” ft Big Sean, and “Right Here” ft Drake adds great chemistry to the album as it’s not just a pop genre Beiber covers. The songs are enjoyable and Beiber proves he can hang with the likes of many entertainment’s favorites. Good Job Beibs, and is that a deeper voice I hear throughout the album? Chris Brown: Fortune
Release Date: 07/03/2012
Record Label: RCA
Genre: R&B, Dance-Pop
Although fans were supposed to hear this much anticipated album since the spring, because of Brown’s change of labels, RCA who is with now decided for a summer release. Fans have already been given snippets on what he’s been working with but not sure if those will be featured on the up-coming album. However, we’ve had a change to listen the pop dance song Turn Up The Music that is set to appear on the fifth studio album. Last we heard from the “Look At Me Now” singer was when he released his March 2011 project “F.A.M.E.”, (back so soon Chris?), glad to see that the artists who’s still getting into a lot of trouble in celebrity news has also been working hard. Listeners should expect to hear rapper-producers will.i.am, David Banner and Kevin McCall, among others making special appearances with this project. Should be good, let me rephrase that, better be good because it’s been VERSED approved!
Maroon 5: Overexposed
Release Date: 06/26/2012
Record Label: Octone Records
Genre: Rock, Pop
Besides Adam Levine’s good looks, his voice also adds to one of the reasons this album sounds good. Whether looking for a solemn type of track to match your mellow mood, or an energy-filled song to go along with that hyper attitude in the office, this 16-track does it all! Included in the album is the popular single “Pay phone” ft. Wiz Khalifa, but “Daylight” and “Wasted Tears” which speaks of moving on from a draining relationship could become favorites. Maroon 5 does a great job with bringing each track to life with it’s own twist, however the rendition of Prince and The Revolution’s 1986 single “Kiss” could’ve done without. Overall the album sounds promising. This album has been VERSED approved!
Lil Scrappy: The Grustle
Release Date: 06/26/2012
Record Label: G$uP-S-Line/Bonzi
Genre: Rap
Immediately pressing play, there was an instant thought to just shut this whole album out after the hearing the first two opening tracks, “Face Off” and “Helicopter”. With “Face Off”, Scrappy seems to be getting personal as it looks like shots are being fired at someone or something, but it doesn’t calm down as “Helicopter” follows right after with of course the sound of southern drawl and the art of “yelling at each other” versus just rapping on a track. But next up was the sexy sounding “Secret” which still carried the rough-sounding voice of Scrappy and his vile lyrics but the sound added a calmer side to the track. It looks like Scrappy also wanted to include some of his friends from the “A” as cast-mate and up and coming rap artist Rasheeda lays down some of her vocals in “Bags” and her part was done with a sexy feminine feel to it, except for Scrappys opening line “I got a bad b*tch and she’s stupid fine.” Whatever that means! Not bad for a mini hiatus away from the recording studio, and an embarrassing public break-up. Lil Scrappy seems to be getting back on time, hope it continues. This album has been VERSED approved!
