Music Reacts to Frank Ocean’s Coming Out Letter

July 4th will forever be remembered as the day one of Hip Hop’s Under Dog revealed his sexuality. Frank Ocean penned a heartfelt letter on tumblr about something that is taboo in the African American Community. Frank Ocean posted a letter he wrote on December 27, 2011 about falling in love with a man four years prior. Ocean goes into detail about how this love for that man took a toll on him and after revealing his feelings, he said he felt like a “free man.” While some people were celebrating the holiday, others were tweeting support for the artist fro coming out. Russell Simmons tweeted, “The Courage of Frank Ocean just changed the game.” Yes, Frank Ocean coming out of the closet has changed the game, because now this shows if sexuality really effects the music?

Although Frank Ocean is a wonderful artist, some people will feel him being Gay will bring negative reactions from the music world and most fans will stop listening to him because he is Gay. If this does happen, this shows how close minded some people are and very negative towards homosexuality. Hopefully, Frank Ocean coming clean about who he really is can help some of these other artists do the same.
