Ruben Studdard files for divorce.

Dubbed the Velvet Teddy Bear throughout his run on American Idol, Ruben Studdard has filed for divorce from wife of three years Zuri McCants. The reason? ‘Irreconcilable differences.’ Studddard, 33, met his wife while signing albums in a supermarket.

His lawyer, Byron Perkins, released a statement: “Ruben Studdard and Zuri McCants Studdard have separated, and they are in the process of seeking dissolution of their marriage. They each request the public respects their privacy during this trying time in their lives.”

Studdard will move forward with scheduled events, such as a fundraiser on Friday and a Sunday marathon.
