The 1970’s was a decade of style, dance and most importantly music. Disco was a big part of the decade and a few singers made the music genre well known. One of those singer’s were Sylvester, an openly gay singer who mixed the sounds of church and funk to create his signature sound, and signature style. With hits like, Make Me Feel (Mighty Real), Dance (Disco Heat) and Do You Wanna Funk, Sylvester made the decade very memorable. Unfortunately, Sylvester passed away from complications from AIDS in 1988 silencing his unique sound forever.

Sylvester has been bought back to life and his story will be seen on Broadway. Life partners Anthony Wayne and Kendrell Bowman teams up with Sheryl Lee Ralph to create, “Mighty Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical” as a way to bring Sylvester’s story to Broadway. Both Anthony and Kendrell sat down with VERSED Online  to talk about bringing Sylvester’s life to the forefront, the challenges they face putting on such a grand scale production, the inspiration behind taking on this project, and much more.
