Whitney Houston’s Tribute at the BET Awards
Last night at the BET Awards, there were a lot of performances that people were anticipating. Everyone was waiting for D’Angelo’s comeback performance and what crazy move was Chris Brown going to do. But the most anticipated performance was the Whitney Houston tribute. Five months after the passing of the singer, BET wanted to give a touching and appropriate tribute to the legendary singer. But no one knew what BET had under their sleeve. The tribute opened with Mariah Carey speaking on her relationship with Houston. The first performer was singer Monica, who spoke with the late singer before she died. She sang one of Houston’s songs called, I Love the Lord. Brandy was next and she came out strutting singing Houston’s hit song, I’m Your Baby Tonight. She didn’t stop there, she went on to sing. I Wanna Dance with Somebody.
But the water works came after when Whitney Houston’s brother, Gary Houston sang a touching song to his baby sister. But the person who surprised the audience the was Cissy Houston. She got up there on the stage and sang, A Bridge Over Troubled Water. Mrs. Houston brought the crowd to tears. Rapper Soulja Boy was shot shedding tears during her performance. Houston’s former cast mates from Waiting To Exhale, Lela Rochon, Angela Bassett, and Loretta Devine all stood and spoke about their cast mate. Chaka Khan came out and rocked the crowd with, I’m Every Woman, a cover Whitney Houston did in 1992. In all, the tribute was beautiful and well put together for the late singer. R.I.P. Whitney
